Toodou, the chinese Youtube

Toodou which means "potato" in chinese is the chinese Youtube.

Launched on 2005 april 15th, "potato" fastly becomes leader of his market, and his competitors Yoqoo and UUME are very far. On 2006 january, 150.000 users are registered. On 2005 december, 8.000 videos was sent on his server and they were more than 3.000.000 viewed. Just 4 months after, on 2006 april, 35.000 videos and 35.000.000 viewed. So, we can see how is important this type of entertainment in China. Then, the capital is opened on 2006 may and toodou win US$8.5 millions and his new partners are called Granite, Jafco Asia & IDG.

Thanks to who? Youngers chinese who love very much original local content.

But, maybe the future will become not good... A recent new on 2006 august 15th said Internet websites will need a special license from government for online videos. Then, it will be impossible to diffuse on his own website, independant video which have point of view different from government.

mmmh, not good fo Toodou, who wants the hot potato? :-)

Incredible chinese

I'm just coming back to eat in my favourite little chinese restaurant near my flat. On the road, I see a new shop next to my restaurant. Yesterday, it wasn't here! In just 24hours, this place is changed from nothing to a DVD store. It's chinese miracle! DVD sellers are everywhere beacause very good profitability. One DVD cost 1€, but we can do t just for 0.20€. There are fakes of course, and there is no bonus, but you can see the film in O.V. Something strange because China said a few time ago : no fake!
The most funny was the entry was in construction, a worker was painting in front of, there was ust a little piece of DVDs, however, public could enter and cash register was already working. Business is business!

Life in China

Life in China

I live in a friendly neighboor, it means a place with a thousand six floors mansion maximum with a few cars. The rule is : no klaxon. A peaceful neighboor in Beijing where China is so noisy. I choose to live there because it's lke a little village. There, we play cards, test Taiqichuan or we discuss. A very good place for know new people and improve chinese. I choose to live there and I'm the only occidental! yes, the only one because this type of neighboor don't interest others occidentals.
In fact, I came in China for most of reasons. It's a new powerful nation, there is business to do, because I'm sure I'll have a good job after, blablabla... But another reason is I like very much China, and I want to discover it from inside. So, I'm not like exapatriates communauty which is in China without speak a word of chinese, in expatriates flats, with expats friends, expats neighboors, in expats bars, and expat food... I prefer to live a chinese life, in a chinese old house, with chinese neighboors et eat all the day in my little chinese restaurant!

Ok, there is an exception, I don't work for a chinese company with a chinese salary. I prefer to work for my little french start-up Crickee ;-)

And before that, each day morning 2 hours of chinese learning, on my own with my chinese teacher's book in my french university "Méthode 90 : Chinois, pratique de base", by Leilei Li. After 6 months with this book in classroom, I can now improve myself with it.

Business Internet China : What about this blog and who is author

Hello guys and welcome on my blog !

My blog is about Business in China, Internet Business and particularly E-business in China. What’s the link? I’m from Internet world and I live in China for 6 months now, so I try to be a link. First, this blog is for me, for my bad memory ;-)

A little presentation about me, yes who am I?

My name is Willy and I’m 26. I’m French et I moved in most of cities in France like Grenoble, Genève (Swiss), Perpignan, Nice, Paris and Nantes. It was good but not enough for me, so I decided to continue by moving on China where I lived in Shanghai and now Beijing.

My cursus? I have an E-business Licence and a Postgraduate Diploma in Internet. I worked 3 years in Internet in France (Webmaster, Intranet Project Manager, Search Engine Optimizer). I really like Internet so I’ll post here news about it.

Why China? Because I have fascination for Asia and China is his economical engine (we say China will become the first economical nation in 20 years). So I moved here because it was good for willing to find an another culture and good for my entrepreneurship’s ideas. I have a Postgraduate in Management with China, so I didn’t come here without nothing :p

So, I will speak about my life in China, sometimes with flashback, Chinese news and Chinese business in particular Internet Business in China, you guess it no? ;-)
